We are pleased to announce that Dr. Aoife Cox will be joining Afiya Spine & Pain Institute as a Rheumatologist (part time).
She is accepting referrals for intra-articular and soft tissue cortisone injections (shoulders, sacroiliac joints, hips, knees, small joints, bursae, tendon sheaths) and peripheral nerve blocks, along with general Rheumatology consultations with a focus on inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout). She is available for in person consultation for OHIP patients who are over 18 years of age.
Background:
Dr. Aoife Cox is a dual certified Rheumatologist and Internal Medicine specialist and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC). She works as a Rheumatologist at Toronto Grace Health Centre and is an Adjunct Lecturer/Clinician Teacher at the University of Toronto in the Division of Rheumatology. Dr. Cox also works part time as a Clinical Associate in Internal Medicine at University Health Network, Toronto as well as Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton. She also works part time as an Internal Medicine consultant at GHA clinic in Hamilton. She obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Western University, London, Canada in 2012 followed by a Masters of Science in Biology in 2014 from Laurentian University, Sudbury, Canada. She completed her medical training in University College Dublin, Ireland in 2018. Dr. Cox completed Internal Medicine Residency at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada in 2021 followed by subspecialty training in Adult Rheumatology at the University of Toronto in 2023. She is interested in musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnosis of inflammatory rheumatic diseases, and guidance of procedures (joint and soft tissue aspirations and injections). She enjoys teaching with special focus on physical exam skills and ultrasound-guided procedures, and welcomes learners (medical students, residents and fellows) in her clinics. Dr. Cox is an executive member of the Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA) Education Committee, general member of the Ontario Rheumatology Association (ORA), Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society (CRUS) and the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR).
